FAQ
Is chiropractic care safe?
Yes, chiropractic care is considered safe when performed by a qualified and licensed chiropractor. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), chiropractic adjustments are generally regarded as safe interventions for the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches. A study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics also concluded that serious adverse events associated with chiropractic care are rare, with the benefits outweighing the risks for most patients. However, as with any healthcare intervention, there may be some risks involved, particularly for individuals with certain pre-existing health conditions. Your chiropractor will conduct a thorough assessment to ensure that chiropractic care is appropriate for you and discuss any potential risks or concerns before beginning treatment.
Does a chiropractic adjustment hurt?
Chiropractic adjustments are typically not painful, although you may experience some mild discomfort or soreness during or after the session. Many patients report feeling a sense of relief and improved mobility following an adjustment. The sensation you may experience during an adjustment can vary depending on factors such as the specific technique used, the area being treated, your individual tolerance level and the presenting nature of your condition. Your chiropractor will communicate with you throughout the treatment process to ensure your comfort and adjust their approach as needed. If you have any concerns about discomfort or pain during an adjustment, don't hesitate to discuss them with your chiropractor as they will be able to adapt their techniques for your comfort.
What should I expect during my first visit to a chiropractor?
During your first visit to a chiropractor, you can expect a thorough evaluation of your health history and current condition. Your chiropractor will ask about any symptoms you may be experiencing, past injuries, medical history, and lifestyle factors that may impact your health. They will then perform a physical examination, which may include orthopedic tests, neurological assessments, postural analysis, and range of motion testing. Based on this assessment, your chiropractor will develop personalised recommendations tailored to address your specific needs and goals. Treatment may include chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue therapies, corrective exercises, and lifestyle recommendations to support your recovery and enhance your overall well-being. Following your initial consultion your chiropractor will put together a report with the findings for this session and in detail discuss these recommendations during your following appointment.
Do I need a referral from my GP to see a chiropractor?
Chiropractors are primary healthcare practitioners, so a referral is not necessary to schedule an appointment with us. However, it's worth noting that an increasing number of GPs are now referring patients to chiropractors through the Enhanced Primary Care Program (EPC). This program allows eligible individuals to receive up to 5 complimentary visits to allied health professionals, including chiropractors, under Medicare. To find out more about this program and whether you qualify for it, we recommend speaking to your GP for more information.
Does Good Bones Chiropractic accept private health insurance?
Yes, we accept private health care funds for chiropractic services. Many private health insurance plans in Australia offer coverage for chiropractic care as part of their extras or ancillary cover. This means that you may be eligible to claim a rebate for chiropractic treatments depending on your insurance provider and policy terms. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to determine your level of coverage for chiropractic care, including any limits, waiting periods, or out-of-pocket expenses. You will receive an invoice with all the necessary information to be able to claim with your private health fund.
